"I understand how our knowledge of the past is constructed through analysis of primary sources of many kinds"

A primary source is a firsthand account of an event, idea, etc. A primary source can be anything from a voice log to a poem to an official document. We can learn from these wide variety of primary sources more than those of secondary sources. Secondary sources are written about primary sources. Our history book is an example of a secondary source, while a diary entry from General Joe Von is an example of a primary source.

Cecil Rhodes and Africa

This is a piece of artwork about the New Imperialism and how Cecil Rhodes contributed toward British control over South Africa and other regions in Africa. It helps us gain an understanding of the New Imperialism because it gives us a visual explaining that Europe controlled Africa with colonies. This artwork came from here, and it is a credible site because it is a ".org" site, and it is from Oswego city school district regents exam prep center.

British Empire controls footholds

British Empire controlled footholds in many countries around the world. It helps see the whole point of the New Imperialism, which was the scramble to control more land. The site I got this from was an ".edu" site made by a college professor that teaches a class called Empire and Imperialism.

Zulu weapons used in 1879

These are two zulu weapons that were used in 1879, a year before the start of the New Imperialism. Before the New Imperialism, British soldiers conquered the Zulu warriors. These were the weapons that the Zulus used when they were dominated by the British machine guns, explained why the West dominated the New Imperialism. This is a very reliable site because it is from a trustworthy news site- BBC.

Colombo in the New Imperialism

This is a picture from Colombo, a city on an island south of India. As you can see from this picture, the local people were unindustrialized. You can see from their clothing and houses that they were made from the people and that there were no cars or buses. It is much less industrialized than the west, explaining why the west conquered areas around here. This website looks to be very reliable because of the copyright 2010 and it was created for posting reliable photos about the history and culture of Sri Lankan.
